Venger has had his body destroyed six times in the cartoon but has somehow managed to resurrect himself, usually with a phantom version of himself rising from his apparent demise.
When the city of Darkhaven collapses with Venger trapped inside it a gigantic, phantom version of himself rises from the ruins and taunts the heroes briefly with his looming image before fading away.
I always felt this gesture was more of a unfulfilled longing for revenge for 'killing' him.
